Smacker Mama

Clicking around internet news sites doing my homework last night, I came across a photograph of Justine Pasek. The caption said she was the first runner-up in the Miss Universe pageant about four months ago.

Take one look at Justine, who is Miss Panama, and you will see that she doesn't look like a runner-up. I could hardly wait to lift her picture and stick it on my website. I didn't think twice about deleting a Saddam editorial cartoon to make room.

Turns out there is a big Miss Universe scandal and Justine is going to be promoted today to Queen of the Galaxy or some such, because the first winner, Miss Russia, is getting fired.

The pageant people say she's maybe married, maybe pregnant, and isn't living up to her Miss Universe-ly obligations. Miss Russia says nyet, that's all untrue. Would like to be married, would be happy being pregnant "because family comes first", but says she is neither. She claims to have quit, and can't understand why the pageant people say they fired her.

The reason this story delights me is that while I am thinking about this, I am NOT thinking about Smacker Mama— who beats up her 4-year-old daughter on television 158 times a day. Don't you think they showed that almost more times than the second airplane flying into the Trade Center?

I just needed a break from Smacker Mama— and Justine, the 22-year-old come-from-behind new Miss Interstellar Space is just the ticket. You women will have to settle for replays of Brad Pitt in the audience at the Emmys. Ladies: Brent and Trey and I definitely got the better deal.

I'm Brad Messer with commentary at 8:15 on KTSA's Morning Edge.
