8:15 a.m. KTSA Morning Edge Commentary 10/10/2002
The councilmen should resign and almost everybody knows it, except our mayor. Ed "Anybody seen my spine?" Garza can't make up his mind yet.
What's to not understand about it?
Fair or not, every vote Mr. Sanders and Mr. Martin cast from today on, people are going to wonder what it cost. We will be sidetracked on personalities and scandal, and be distracted from the issues important to our town.
When a New York City councilman on the take was nabbed by the FBI this year, it was for sucking up $1.5-million in property discounts and 50 Gs cash. If our guys were bought, it was for so much less. A few grand. I'm kind of disappointed a San Antonio councilman's vote isn't worth more. Dallas is probably making fun of us already.
In all dead-seriousness, this is a disgusting development. Selling out your public trust is just another form of prostitution, except I believe that even crack scaggs have a touch more class.
Yes, people are innocent until proven to be on the take. And the FBI saying something doesn't necessarily make it so. But don't you agree?
The two councilmen should resign right now, sort of Nixon-like, saving City Hall a long local nightmare. Resign today, I say. Resign today, and if in the trials later, they turn out to be not guilty, they can say we knew it all along, but we resigned because it was best for our constituents and best for the city at the time.
I'm Brad Messer with commentary at 8:15 on KTSA's Morning Edge.
