One of our KTSA co-workers won't be here today, or tomorrow, or until further notice. My studio director Richard Tuley is in the reserves and he's been called up.

A newspaper report yesterday put it like this: ".. the mobilization of US forces for a war with Iraq is well under way, as Navy battle groups, Army troops, vehicles, and attack helicopters, Air Force long-range bombers as well as US Central Command headquarters elements all move into position in the Gulf region."

You and I are always saying how much we support the military. Right now, you have an opportunity to show you mean it.

Lackland Air Force Base, and the Army at Fort Sam Houston, are looking for local families to give our soldiers and airmen some good home cooking on Thanksgiving Day.

"Operation Homecoming" at Lackland hopes to have its 2,200 recruits invited to people's homes. Fort Sam's "Mission Thanksgiving" wants to place about 700 soldiers.

If you can find it in your heart to open your home, to demonstrate support of our fellow citizens in the military, please call and sign up.

The phone at Lackland is 671-3701. At Fort Sam it's 221-3390 (or e-mail Ft. Sam here).

Or call KTSA. We have the phone numbers here for you. And the numbers and e-mail links are on my website at

Food and friendship. It really isn't much to ask. I know San Antonio people don't have to be asked twice, to show your generosity. That's one thing we all like about us, isn't it.
