VIA needs Teeny Tiny Cars
We don't even really say anything any more when we see an empty VIA bus go by. We're used to it. A 200-foot-long bus with state-of-the-art bright brake lights and various flashing warning lights, stark empty, is just standard for the course here.
Now I hear that VIA is cutting Park 'n' Ride service this year from the South Side to the Texas Folklife Festival. Oh, Northsiders, don't worry, you'll still have YOUR Park 'n' Ride. It's just the people who really need it that won't have it. VIA says not enough people were using the service from McCreless Mall.
I believe that VIA should sell the huge, empty buses on eBay and buy some of those new little Morris Minor cars. If you're gonna run empty vehicles, why not run something inexpensive. The Morris cars are only three feet long and two feet tall and get more than a thousand miles to the gallon.
Empty Morrises would be much more efficient, space-saving, and cost-effective than empty buses the size of railroad boxcars that get 35 gallons to the mile.
Then maybe we'd have money to give Southsiders some equal bus service.
