Julian the Expander

During the Smoking Ban discussion at city hall yesterday, councilman Julian Castro made a most astonishing statement.

Remember, under the ban, it will be perfectly legal to run a non-smoking restaurant, and just as legal to allow smoking.

So along comes the junior councilman from District 7, with visions of liberal mommyism dancing in his head. The power of elected office has produced a narcotic effect, and dreams of further-expanded power.

Mr. Castro suggested that down the line, San Antonio should have a policy of giving city business only to non-smoking restaurants.

Both kinds are legal, but Julian the Expander craves expanding liberal policy to financially punish businesses that do follow the law, but don't follow his personal point of view.

The city has already intruded too far into private business. A kind mentor needs to explain the finer points of illegal discrimination to councilman Castro. And quickly, before his head expands any further.
