The Hooker

Over the weekend a 30-year-old women was murdered in a motel room here. She was working as a so-called escort, which in this case meant prostitute.

The woman's family said she had fallen on hard times. She had decided to sell her body for a “good” reason— to get money for Christmas presents for her 7-year-old son.

Her mother insisted to a newspaper reporter that her murdered daughter was “not a prostitute.” What passed for logic in her mind was that if you do something for a sympathy-inducing reason, you're not really doing it. Hooey.

The definition of prostitute is someone who "indiscriminately offers sex for money.” That is also the dictionary definition of “whore.”

I pass no judgment on the murdered woman's choice of profession. People do what they feel they have to. Heaven reportedly has an entire department set up for forgiveness and redemption.

But, Mom, even when someone hooks to buy Christmas presents, she's still a hooker. The world knows it. A mother’s love cannot change that fact.
