For Reserves, Help from Home
While our National Guard and Reserve troops are away fighting, some of their families are suffering.
Many troops earn a lot less on active duty than they do at their regular civilian jobs, so there are financial hardships for their families.
Home-front volunteers have been doing something about that.
Several states have set up Military Family Relief Funds. One report says, "Grants ranging [up] to $2,000 will help [cover] rent, utilities and medical expenses."
Pat Quinn, Lieutenant Governor of Illinois, set up a website called Operation Home Front. It shows how regular citizens at home can help families of our soldiers around the world. The site has surpassed 4-million hits.
There's not a nicer thing people can do, than pitching in to support our active duty troops. It's something to be proud of.
