Political Ad Lies

Here come the presidential political ads. You can almost smell 'em, can't you.

Bush says Kerry wants to raise taxes by $900-billion. Kerry says no, what he said was he wants only to roll back Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy, $900-billion over ten years.

Already it's like some kind of Bill Clinton fantasyland— the meaning of is.

A couple-hundred million dollars worth of ads coming up are almost certainly going to be lies, damned lies and twisted statistics. When we hear an attack ad, we automatically wonder what part of it is misleading.

Presidential campaign politics stink. Eight more months of this and even people dumb as dirt will begin to understand that truth is the first casualty in these ads. A sane person can believe almost nothing that is said.

The fastest-growing part of campaign news coverage is the Truth Squad, which points out the lies. The truth squads are going to be very, very busy through early November.
