Dog Weddings

People who are driven up the wall by gay marriages talk about the sanctity of marriage— "sanctity" being defined as "the quality of being holy."

This has given rise to an email list of critics who haven't kept their own straight marriages sanctified at all. Newt Gingrich divorced his wife when she was dying of cancer. Rush Limbaugh and current wife Marta have six marriages and four divorces between them. And of course the author of the Defense of Marriage Act, Bob Barr, has been married three times. Which marriage is he defending?

Our president claims to want a Constitutional Amendment prohibiting gay marriage. Two Unitarian ministers who have officiated at gay marriages in New York have been charged with the criminal act of solemnizing a marriage without a license. They could go to jail.

I stand in wonder that so many people are so worked up.

Why don't they get stirred up by these dog weddings? You can buy wedding dresses for dogs. One website offers "Custom hand-blown glass dog wedding cake tops [with] golden retriever, and dachshund in a hat." Isn't that some kind of threat to civilization?

Maybe some of these dog-wedding people should be tossed into jail. What are they saying about the sanctity of marriage?
