Winning Hearts

There is NO "systematic abuse" of Iraqi prisoners. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff says so.

I wonder how he could possibly know that, without having seen the report on prisoner abuse completed three months ago— which he claims not to have seen.

Why hasn't he? General Myers says because it is working its way up the chain of command.

Pretty convincing stuff, huh. He told CBS Face the Nation yesterday, " just hasn't come to me yet."

The New Yorker magazine calls the report "devastating", with numerous instances of "sadistic, blatant, and wanton criminal abuses" of Iraqis.

The London Guardian reports prisoners were kept naked virtually all the time. The day before a Red Cross visit, clothes would be handed out. Prisoners were told that if they complained to the Red Cross, they would be kept in prison forever.

Winning hearts and minds.
