Our Damned Mayor

San Antonio mayor Ed Garza was criticized for being too public about the Miller Barbecue family's housing development issue.

Now he's being criticized for being too private about his scheme to fire the City Manager.

District 5 council rep Patti Radle got her feelings hurt because she felt left out of the Mayor's behind-the-scenes discussions. She ran to the District Attorney to tell on the mayor. The D.A. has flashed the bat signal to the Texas Rangers. The question is whether the Mayor violated the Texas Open Meetings Act.

Last night a TV station had a poll about whether the discussions should have been kept private, or conducted in public. Around half the voters said private.

But conducting city business of that kind in private is against the law.

However it turns out, Mayor Ed Garza must know by now that he cannot win. Too public. Too private. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Our damned Mayor can't win for losing.
