Clown Act

At a quarter past midnight this morning, embattled City Manager Terry Brechtel said she would quit. This saves the Mayor and City Council the effort of firing her.

Council had been holed up in a private room with the City Manager for around seven hours, in a marathon discussion of her job performance.

From the start, the whole affair was an odd performance by Mayor Ed Garza. The District Attorney has called in the Texas Rangers to investigate whether he violated the Texas Open Meetings Act.

Yesterday I put a poll on the internet asking what you think of the mayor's handling of this. Five-percent said he's been very professional, or has done fairly well, or has bumbled a little. An overwhelming 57% said it's been a circus clown act, and another 36% said the mayor is a split personality mental case.

Who says we're not a world class city? Our local politics provide absolutely first-rate entertainment. I'll bet Austin and Dallas are deep-green jealous!
