Finding Osama

Over the past few weeks there have been reports that, in the hunt for Osama bin Laden, we're getting warmer. Then there are denials, counterclaims, new theories and so on.

Fact is, one day we are likely to find the 9-Eleven mastermind. Hopefully sooner rather than later. But if our guys do hunt him down before November 2nd, it's going to be very interesting politically.

If there is a November Surprise and bin Laden is grabbed, it could be a big boost for President Bush.

But it could go either way. If people got the idea that Bush pretty much knew all along where he was, but waited until just before the election to move in, it could cost him reelection. Imagine the conspiracy theories!

Bush is between a rock and a hard place on this one. Catch Osama now and it might look staged. Don't catch him and the three-year manhunt remains a failure.

I hope Mr. Bush doesn't call me for advice.
