![]() Brad Messer Commentary KTSA Wednesday, September 8, 2004 Pants On Fire Fifty-five days until the general election and the major news media are shameful. Political candidates have been unchallenged in their lies. Not little sneaky lies, either big, pants-on-fire lies.
Most newspapers and television news operations are lazy. They think they've done their job if they run what one person says, then run something on the other side of the issue that another person says. They should step up to the plate and tell which statements are lies. They don't. When a politician misquotes or misrepresents his opponent, the media should compare the misquote to the original statement, as a matter of routine. They don't. Some newspapers, and some TV newspeople, do try to fact-check fairly often, but not consistently and not thoroughly. This leaves the average person uninformed, or misinformed, because he has little time or resources to do original political research. The presidential campaign is being conducted with lies. The big news media should be ashamed of themselves for not routinely being lie detectors. Brad Messer commentary KTSA. Fact
