![]() Brad Messer Commentary KTSA Tuesday, September 14, 2004 Today Bexar County Commissioners will take another stab at trying to decide whether to establish a tax limit. The Prop 13 Freeze would cap current county tax bills for people 65 and older, and some disabled people. Their taxes would never go above what they are right now, ever. The idea has great popularity, but is landmined with some devilish details. For one, the tax freeze could never be ended, unless by a popular vote amending the state constitution. Another drawback - a big one - is that no one is sure of the immediate cost nor certainly the long term costs. Bexar County Commissioners are sorely tempted to vote for the Prop 13 tax freeze, but this I believe: they'll study the whole scheme enough that, when they finally do make a decision, it'll be very carefully done. I say "carefully" so no one will mistakenly think I am talking about the City Council. Brad Messer commentary KTSA.
