![]() Brad Messer Commentary KTSA Thursday, September 16, 2004 With Dan Rather and CBS facing a credibility crisis over their "Bush memos" story, some of their competitors are delighted.
Howard Kurtz writes in the Washington Post that, while Rather and top CBS officials are still defending the story, "..GOP critics as well as some media commentators demanded that the story be retracted and suggested that Rather should step down." He ain't steppin'. Rather will survive this crisis, as he has survived all the others. Vetting the memo story may be one of his smaller problems. A bigger one is ratings. His CBS Evening News program consistently ranks third behind ABC and NBC. Media people can survive an astonishing array of problems, but they can't survive bad ratings for long, and his have long been bad. Brad Messer commentary KTSA.
