![]() Brad Messer Commentary KTSA Tuesday, September 21, 2004 A Leon Valley mom admits she stole $22-thousand from her school PTA, to pay bills and buy stuff.
The judge in San Antonio came pretty close to blowing his stack. Judge Phil Kazen sent Cindy Henley off to 90 days in jail, ordered her to repay the 22 grand, and to perform a thousand hours of community service. If she doesn't, he said, he'll slam her in prison for ten years. And one other thing. The 38-year-old mom has to put a big sign in her front yard. The 4-by-8-foot sign must read
Why the yard sign? Judge Kazen told her, "Your neighbors need to know who they're living with." I guess he's within the law, but it's a bit much. Making child molesters ID themselves with yard signs serves to warn the community of a real danger. But a yard sign for a PTA embezzler seems unnecessarily vindictive. Brad Messer commentary KTSA.
