Everything Changes

Everything changes.

You like a restaurant, they lose their great cook, the place goes downhill.

Some poor, homely little girl grows up to be the prettiest girl in the state.

Everything changes.

Conservatives used to be the champion of civil liberties, smaller government and fiscal responsibility. Everything changes.

After 9-11 the Republican-controlled Congress passed the deceptively-named Patriot Act. One provision gave the FBI a super power— the right to demand information and materials without a subpoena, without a judge's permission or knowledge. On top of that, the FBI could tell the concerned parties to shut up and never tell anyone they were there. The administrative subpoena - also called the national security letter - was blatantly unconstitutional when Congress passed it. A federal judge has now confirmed its illegality.

Conservatives have always protected the Constitution and Bill of Rights. But the current leaders who call themselves conservatives have tried to weaken both.

Everything changes.
