Gayer Than Thou

The gay issue in the presidential race is orbiting past again.

Most recently, it centered on Vice President Cheney's daughter being a (you know) as well as who could or couldn't say she was a (you know).

This time, the issues are civil unions and gay marriage. Bush wants a Constitutional Amendment to ban gay marriage; Kerry thinks a Constitutional ban is unnecessary.

Both agree homosexual marriage shouldn't be allowed. But Kerry thinks some kind of civil arrangement would be okay.

Bush was against even that. Until last night. Now he's a new man. First he was here, then in a flash he was there.

These were Bush's words:

“I don’t think we should deny people rights to a civil union, a legal arrangement, if that’s what a state chooses to do so."

First he was here, then POW! he was there. The Cowboys could use a move like that.

But even after his one giant leap to a new attitude, that still leaves the President not quite as gay-tolerant as Kerry.

But, who knows? Things change. Still 6 days 'til the election, and -- as people used to say when it was true -- every vote counts.
